The Real Police

The Real Police

Dear Members,

I met with a retired police officer today. He was a commander of a police academy and is now very active in criticizing current drug policy. He’s very excited about our plan for a new show called “Police." It’s a program made with, and mostly for, people involved in law enforcement.

“Police” will take up questions like:

  • To serve and protect whom?
  • Does the ‘War on Drugs’ make communities safer?
  • How does poverty and race affect policing?
  • What should an officer do if ordered to disperse a legal and peaceful protest?

We will also look at pay, working conditions, and treating police for what they are--public sector workers. We plan to help create a debate about these questions amongst law enforcement people across North America.

The retired officer agreed to help and joined our advisory committee to help plan the coverage. We’ll let you know more as the work unfolds.

We need viewer funding to make everything we do possible. If you’ve already donated during this campaign, thanks very, very much.

If you are still deciding, or just putting it off till later, now is the time to commit. Our end-of-year matching grant campaign gives us until December 31st to reach $150,000. We just hit $120,000. Will you help us reach our goal? Together, we can strengthen The Real News content and broaden its distribution.
