Chronology of Sektak | Liankhankhup Sektak

Pu Zo (the commön ancestor of all the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi-Hmar-Laimi-Laizo-Mara- Khulmi- Komrem- Halam etc) beget Kipmang, Kipmang beget Nawphut, Nawphut beget Nawsung, Nawsung beget Songthu, Songthu beget Sungmang and Sungmang beget Pu Zahong. Zahong beget three söns Sektak, Tohin and Suantak. [1]

Our ancestral were living in CIIMNUAI and some of his descendents were migrated to CIIMTUNG in search of better cultivation and living which the historian term as Siyin or Sizang.Si means "salt" and Zang means "plane area" which indicates our ancestror who lived at the northern plane of Salt Spring. The later generations and offspring who continued to live on, in the same location, spontaneously adopted“Sizang”as their ethnic identity. Sektak is believe to be the eldest sön of Pu .Zahong and Vaiphei is the son of Suantak or Thuantak. The Siahtak , Sehtha and Siahliap are coin by neighbours which refer their proginator as "Sektak". The Suantak is proginetor of Vaiphei and other brothers. [2]
The Vaiphei left Khawvaiphei and found Khawzim where they live peacefully untill the Pawis and Sukte imposed war with them. Thereafter, they scatter in Mizoram, Manipur and other states for safety and better living. [3]

Zomi or Zo is a collective name and Sektak, Siahliap, Siahliak, Siahtak are the descendents of Pu. Zo who was living in Garden of Eden (Ciimnuai) [4]

In Suante's blog, it described more details about the descendents of Pu. Zo follows , " Pu. Zo beget two sons Kipmang and Chinhil, Kipmang beget Nawhphut and Lemang, Nawhphut beget three sons Nawhsong, Phuhsong and Suankap, Nawhsong beget Songthu and Ngaihte, Songthu beget Sungmang and Zakhai, Sungmang beget Songkip and Tohin, Songkip beget three sons Zahong, Ngawngtaw and Songza, Zahong beget three sons Neihthang, Sektak and Suantak. Neihthang beget Thango, Thango beget Daitawng, Daitawng beget Neihlut and Suankhup, Neihlut beget three sons Genzo,Baite and Neihzo, Genzo beget Khupmu , Suante and Henkhai... [5]
The statemaster encyclopedia stated that Tohin as middle son whearas Sektak is the eldest brother but Suante's blog mentioned Tohin as Sungmang son, Neihthang comes the eldest of Pu. Zahong whearas Sektak is the eldest son of Pu. Zahong.

The forefathers of Pu. Zo(Tibeto-Burman-Indo tribes) were believed to lived in near the river of Tao [6], northern Kansukhum, Lanchou believed to be present day of China around 2000 B.C. [7] But historian suggested that the forefathers of the Zo decendents were lived in the valley near Huang Ho river in China during the ruled of King Qin Shi Huang (221-206 B.C) . The History of Great Wall of China Wikipedia mention, " The walls were built of rammed earth, constructed using forced labour".. [8] According to tradition, the Chinese King Qin Shi Huang force the ZO ancestors to built great Wall of China without giving a single penny(force labour). Unable to bear those burdens, they fled China in the wee hours of Morning and hide in the Cave of thick forest. [9] Therefore, the North-East encyclopedia and various researchers concluded that the Tibeto-Burman-Indo tribes are originated from the CAVE [10] The Zomis' clan Paite [11] called the cave as "KHUK" , Kuki called "KHUL" and the Hmar called "SINLUNG that has same meaning "Cave". [12] The journeyed between Cave to Tibet then Ciimnuai is almost untraceable as there is no written Chronology and whether some migrated to Mongolia or the theory of Manmasi tribe of Israel. It is written , " They left the Cave in search of greener pasture... while another describes it as oppressive ruler. [13] Probabely after hiding in the deep jungle in fear of Chinese soldiers, they reach Tibet and took a shelter in a place called "Kham". Luaichinthang stated " A Chinese ruler forced their ancestors to build a great, big wall and unable to bear the hard labors any longer, they ran away from it in the wee hours morning." [14]
According to Rev S.T Hau Go, Zo descendents are known in various name- 'Yo' in Thado area, Laizo in Falam area, Zomi in Tedim area, Mizo in Lushai area, Zotung, Zophei, Zokhua in Hakas area, Bawm in Chittagong hill tracts, Yaw in Gangaw area, Jo or Cho in Mindat, Khomi in Paletwa, A-sho in Prome.... The Bengali term them Kuki, the Burmans called them Chin, and the Indian called them Lushai but Zomi is the most widely used National name. It is believed that the Zote [Zo/ Zomi] have descended from Mongolia to China and to Tibet and to the present day Burma. They are Zo not because they live in the highlands or the hills , but all Zo and call themselves Zo because they are the descendents of the great ancestor , "Zo" .[15]

The history of Migration from China to Cave, Cave to Tibet, Tibet to Burma is uncertainty as there were no record of historical books. But some modern historian suggested that the forefathers of the Zomi's were living in Kansukuam, Lanchou, China around 2000 B.C. [Yet to complete]

Why Christian should not celebrate Solung Gidi?

By ABLK

"Ye shall have no other gods before me (v3)... nor bowdown or serve them(v5)..(1)

Solung festival is one of the main religious feestival of Adis community and the festival is primarily connected with Agricuture activity. One of the goddess 'KINE-NANE' told to the people to make a yearly sacrifice with Mithun and Pig in the sacrifice name call ' SOLUNG'. It is also believe that Kine-Nane is the founder of Paddy, according to Adi's tradition. Traditionally they concluded that by sacrificing Mithun and Pig, their field would be protect and bless by goddess. (2) If the goddess Kine - Nane and god Doying-Bote are pleased and satisfied with their sacrifices, the former will appear in the form of clouds and rains that will produce great fertily soil.

Our God, who created the universe and every animals according to its kind, and all human being and all things in this world (3) has commanded us not to have other gods, worship nor sacrifice to them. (4). Christian cant believes nor made sacrifice in the name of Solung to Doying Bote(Adi's believe as god) and Kine-Nane (goddess) in connection with harvest. The Adis legendary narrated that the plant of paddy originated from the life juice of Yidum Bote (Son of the god of knowledge) Because, their Lord didnt permit them as they are chosen to be Holy (5).

Kine- Nane(who was believe to be goddess) required Mithun and Pig sacrifice for blessings, but the God of Christian desire MERCY(steadfast love) rather than sacrifice (6). They believe Kine-Nane would bless their field, plantations, jobs, rain and fertile soil to produce more grains. But God had spoken to Haggai that climate, paddy, money, richness, drought in his hand. (7) When people are disobedience and far away from him, he brought famine, drought to them to let them know that He is everything.

Therefore, Solung is not cultural celebration rathan belief. Culture loss is identity lost but religion lost is not identity lost. Religion is belief and culture is our identity.

Solung is celebrated in the month of August/ September in connection with harvest. For Christians, Feast of the Harvest or Agricultural activity celebration was practice in the Old Testment in the month of Sivan (May/June) (8). But some Churches in Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur are celebrating harvest/first fruit on August/ Septembert and November respectively. Especially the christians in East, Upper and West Siang can adopt festival of Harvest in March/April or August/September as they celebrated traditionally. Christian doesnt mean that we should forsake our culture, dress, dance instead we should more focus and preserve our culture which reveals our identity.

Apong is made of yeast which is forbidden by Christian God and all types of intoxication(Wine) .(9) On the day of celebration, any juice shall be served to Christian in place of Apong.

Miri ( religious leader or priest) sings Solung Abung and relate stories of the origin of man, animals , plants etc throughout Solung Gidi. In christian term Miri can be Priest, Pastor, Evangelist, Choir Master who deliver the same as Miris' did in the occassion. While sing and dance, certain words like Doying Bote, Kine-Nane, Donyi-Polo (in place of god can be change into God, Jehovah, Jesus etc as the song composed.

On Solung Gidi dogin, Doreph Long, Binnayard Binam, Yaktor of Ekoph, Oinyard, Irni, Yegling, Christian members also has to do in the name of God , Jesus etc to prosper paddy as Donyi-Polo followers did saperately. Inviting one another for party and dance but respecting their religious belief. Cultural modification is the need of hour to contain and protect one's own culture which any religions of our broken brothers and Sisters can too involved.

Religion and belief shall not gain gap among family, villages, tribes and community. Society should not be driven by belief but everyone shall get freedom to choose any religiön. Society shall protect and deliver justice to everyone. Thus peace and prosperity, love and brotherhood will dwell among us .
